The "eyes" have it.

  • Cats cannot see directly beneath their noses. You can test this by offering your kitty a treat, such as Pounce. He can smell it, but if you drop it directly beneath his nose, he'll have to root around a bit before finding it.
    Itsy, Bitsy, Teenie, Weenie
  • Rumors aside, cats are not colorblind. Their ability to see color is not as enhanced as ours, but they can see some colors.
    Wizard

  • If normal human vision is 20/20, then that of the cat is 20/100. He has keen vision for objects far away, but things up close may appear fuzzy or blurred. Perhaps this is why cats do the sniff test when greeting friends.
    Harley

  • Most white blue-eyed cats are deaf. A white cat with odd-eyes (one blue and one green or gold) will most often be deaf on the side with the blue eye.
    Bishop

  • Cats "Kiss" with their Eyes. Have you ever noticed your cat gazing at you for a long moment and then slowly blinking his eyes? That's the kitty equivalent of a kiss, and you should feel very flattered. Of course, a nip on the nose is also their way of giving a kiss. If you want to show your cat you love him, give him a kitty kiss right back. No, not on the nose. Just give him that long stare and slow blink and see what happens.

    Featured Cat - Stallone

    Stallone
I’m Stallone a handsome male black cat.  It was my good fortune to be rescued by CCS in July 2011.  They have given me a great home and I have made friends with many other rescued cats.  As much as I like it here, I am ready to find my new family.  I’d love to greet you at the door when you come home and would appreciate some of your time petting and giving me all your attention.  I am very curious and might even help you with your household chores; well, maybe I will just supervise.  I get along well with other cats here at the shelter and enjoy a soft bed in the window.  I’m ready to get into my own place where I can sit with my guardians and purr.  Are you the forever family that I have been waiting for?

Open House - Find Your Forever Friend

CCS is having an open house on Saturday, August 17th from 12:00 - 5:00 pm.  We are located at 9  9th Street South in Fargo.  Our phone number is 701-356-7877.

Thanks to those who donated in honor of Corky's 2nd birthday.  Because of their generosity, we are able to offer reduced adoption rates.  We will also have several of our kittens in-house.  Not sure about a kitten?  We have many adults available as well.

Check out the following posts for information on adding kittens or cats to your home:

Looking to have just one pet?  Do you want that special pet to be a cat?  While many cats enjoy (or may even need) the company of their own kind, some cats do best on their own.  CCS has several cats who would be purrfect as an only pet in the home.  Here are just a few.  Please ask about others.

Maren is a sweet female black and white cat.  She has a unique coat with individual white hairs throughout her black fur.  She is mild tempered and enjoys sitting on a lap or being petted while sitting in a cozy bed.  She can be a bit sensitive if you pet her along her left side as she has two bbs and some buckshot in her.  She is a good player and likes to play with balls or chase toy mice.  She tends to stay away from the other cats in her room whenever possible and will swat and hiss at them if they come too close.  As an only cat in a calm home she would be the perfect companion.

Veronica is a tabby striped cat and friendly with people.  She likes to be petted and will rub against a person’s legs to get their attention.  She does get testy with the other cats in her room and would love a place of her own.  She has a feisty feline attitude and will let you know when she wants attention or to be left alone.
Magnolia is a beautiful dark-colored tortoiseshell cat.  She hisses at most of the other cats in her room.  When you spend some time one on one with her she curls up in your arms and purrs.  She is a very sweet and beautiful girl.  UPDATE: Magnolia is currently in foster.  Please ask or leave a message if you are interested in meeting her.
Sparkle is a nice calico cat who loves attention.  She is timid around other cats and finds their company to be stressful.  She spends most of her time on a shelf or cat stand away from the others.  Spend some time with her and she will give you head-butts.  She has a distinctive meow and a loud purring motor.

Roberta loves people and enjoys getting head rubs and lying in a cozy bed in the window.  She likes attention and is fond of being held or sitting next to you.  Being surrounded by other cats makes her very nervous.  Roberta would love to find a home where she could relax and receive the love she deserves.  Roberta has the best raspy meow and currently is able to roam the halls and office of the shelter on her own which appears to make her more content.  UPDATE: Roberta is currently in foster.  Please ask or leave a message if you are interested in meeting her.

    Featured Volunteer - Neal

Neal is a valued volunteer at Cats Cradle Shelter.  He spends time cleaning, doing maintenance work, socializing, and serving as a part-time climbing tree.

He currently has his 3 "li'l buddies" at home.
    Max

    Jaka

    Pearl

Neal grew up in the country, and has always had stray cats show up and become friends.  He does what he can in honor of them, particularly his very first cat, Frank. "You were a fine and noble cat, Frank.  Hope your great-great-great-grandchildren are still out there chasing mice somewhere.

Since 1997 Neal has worked for NavTeq (now a part of Nokia), creating maps and 3D city models for vehicle navigation systems. “It’s been a great opportunity to get in a little world travel and actually get paid for it.  As my job might indicate, I'm a hardcore traveler, and get antsy if I don't get out of town every few months.  Lately, I've been visiting a few science fiction/comic book conventions around the country.  It's a great way to meet some of my favorite actors/actresses as well as to show off one of my other hobbies, creating special effect masks and costumes.

Here is Neal’s story about his favorite ongoing cat experience.

My newest li'l buddy, Pearl, came from Cats Cradle.  She was a shy little girl who had been constantly passed over while all of her more outgoing brothers and sisters had been adopted.  After five years at the shelter, she was still intimidated by both people and other cats and spent most of her time huddled alone on the highest shelf in the room.  Somewhere along the line, though, she decided that I was okay and always happily greeted me when I came to the shelter.
I was really not looking for a third cat, but after a lot of convincing I finally brought her home.  It's amazing to see her starting to bond with my other cats, enjoying herself, and gaining confidence every day.  Knowing that I was able to give her a happy home at last is a great feeling.

As with all of the volunteers at CCS, Neal’s hard work and dedication are the reasons they are able to advocate for our furry friends and find forever homes for so many lovely souls.
Thank you to every CCS volunteer!

    Featured Cats - Remember Us?

Here are a few of the cats that we have featured in the past that are still looking for their forever homes.

    Buffy
I'm Buffy, one of the many tabby cats here at the shelter.  I love to be close to people and get some much deserved attention.  When you hold or pet me I will purr and give you face rubs.  There is nothing I like better then to sit close to you or on your lap and have you lavish me with love.  Come see me today between 10:00 and 4:00 at our open house.

    Maren
Maren is a sweet female black and white cat.  She has a unique coat with individual white hairs throughout her black fur.  She is mild tempered and enjoys sitting on a lap or being petted while sitting in a cozy bed.  She can be a bit sensitive if you pet her along her left side as she has two bbs and some buckshot in her.  She is a good player and likes to play with balls or chase toy mice.  She tends to stay away from the other cats in her room whenever possible and will swat and hiss at them if they come too close.  As an only cat in a calm home she would be the perfect companion.

    Roberta
Roberta loves people and enjoys getting head rubs and lying in a cozy bed in the window.  She likes attention and is fond of being held or sitting next to you.  She has a longer black coat that is soft and silky.  Being surrounded by other cats makes her very nervous.  Roberta would love to find a home where she could relax and receive the love she deserves.  Roberta has the best raspy meow and currently is able to roam the halls and office of the shelter on her own which appears to make her more content.

    Stallone
I’m Stallone a handsome male black cat.  I’d love to greet you at the door when you come home and would appreciate some of your time petting and giving me all your attention.  I get along well with other cats here at the shelter and enjoy a soft bed in the window.  I’m ready to get into my own place where I can sit with my guardians and purr.  I’m so ready that I keep trying to escape my room when the door opens to see if my new family might be here to meet me.

    Magnolia
Magnolia is a beautiful dark-colored tortoiseshell cat.  She hisses at most of the other cats in her room.  When you spend some time one on one with her she curls up in your arms and purrs.  She is a very sweet and beautiful girl.

    Georgia
Hi, I’m Georgia. I have a gorgeous long gray-and-white coat and I can be quite the diva.  I have a sassy personality and love to play.  My favorite toys are balls with bells inside that I can chase around the room.  When I am not busy playing, I like to have my head scratched.  I love to be on a cat-stand so that I can survey my territory.  I would love to find a forever home where I can be queen of my castle.

    Mike
Hi, I’m Mike a 3 year old handsome boy.  I’m outgoing and love to play.  I’ve been known to do back flips while in pursuit of a toy.  I’d prefer a bed in a window so I can see what is going on outside.  I can’t wait to find my forever home where I’d get some one on one attention and many head rubs.

    Snowflake
I'm the beautiful Snowflake.  I love laying close to people and letting them rub my belly.  I'm a good player and certainly enjoy the company of people.  I will purr and purr if you give me a little attention.  My coat is thick and soft and just right for combing.  Come on over to the shelter on Saturday and get to know me.

    Veronica
Veronica is a tabby striped cat and friendly with people.  She likes to be petted and will rub against a person’s legs to get their attention.  She does get testy with the other cats in her room and would love a place of her own.  She has a feisty feline attitude and will let you know when she wants attention or to be left alone.

    Sparkle
Sparkle is a nice calico cat who loves attention.  She is timid around other cats and finds their company to be stressful.  She spends most of her time on a shelf or cat stand away from the others.  Spend some time with her and she will give you head-butts.  She has a distinctive meow and a loud purring motor.
