Declawed Cats

As many people are aware, declawing consists of amputating not just the claws, but the whole phalanx (up to the joint), including bones, ligaments, and tendons.  For information on declawing and suggestions on re-directing cat scratching behaviors, refer to the link on the left titled “Declaw Information”.

Regardless of one’s views on declawing, the fact remains that many housing establishments require that cats be declawed.  CCS currently has several declawed cats that have been rescued from the local pounds.

If you are looking for a cat and are thinking about declawing, stop by the shelter and check out our declawed felines.  We are located at 9  9th Street South, Fargo.  Open House hours are Tuesdays 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm and Saturdays 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.  Tours are also avalilable upon request by appointment.  You can reach us at 701-356-7877.

Sleepy Kitty

What is all that Snoozing about?

Ace
6 Fun facts about a cat’s sleep habits

1. Sleeping the day away

Cats can sleep up to 13-20 hours per day

Blizzard
Clara

2. Sleeping, but still alert

Cats spend about ¾ of their sleep time snoozing. You can tell when a cat is in light sleep because their ears will twitch and move toward noises and their eyes may open a tiny bit.

3. Do cats Dream?

Cats in deep sleep are usually curled up with their eyes tightly closed.  Deep sleep is the time when your cat dreams. If you’ve seen your cat’s whiskers or paws twitching while she’s asleep, there’s a good chance she’s dreaming.

4. Some cats do snore

Snoring is most likely to happen when your cat is relaxed, so it wouldn’t be outrageous to notice your cat sawing some tiny little logs from time to time.

5. Night Night Kitty

Felines tend to sleep during the day and be awake during the night. If this is not your preference, you can influence this habit by playing with kitty during the day and making sure that there is a lot of stimulating activity available when the sun is out.

6.  Is there a problem?

Should you notice a major change in kitty’s sleep habits it is a good idea to talk to your veterinarian to rule out any serious problems.

Featured Cats - Fortune

Fortune

Hi, I’m Fortune a beautiful white female with a few gray markings on my head and tail. My favorite place to be is in a soft bed where I can curl up and you can give me some pets. I love to chase a laser light and will jump to go after a feather toy. Sometimes after a couple jumps I remember that I’m too important for that type of thing and will return to my cozy bed. I’ve adjusted to my roommates, but might prefer to have you all to myself. I’m awfully sweet and would like to meet my forever family soon.
